10 Weird Tricks for How to Polish Silver

10 Weird Tricks for How to Polish Silver
Make the dull jewelry and tarnished silver that you have, look like they are new after cleaning them with these trusted everyday household items.
Vinegar
As much as you use vinegar for many other things including cooking in your house, it can also be used for polishing silver. It is an incredibly versatile cleaning tool.
Return the shine and luster to both your jewelry as well as your silverware by soaking it in a half cup of white vinegar after mixing two tablespoons of baking soda in it, for 2 to 3 hours. After that, rinse the items under cold water and dry it with a soft cloth thoroughly.
Hair conditioner
Yes, you read it right! The conditioner that you apply to your hair can do a lot of magic to the tarnished silver. In case you wish to avoid the tarnishing of your silver jewelry, rub conditioner on the clean silver.
Window cleaner
Window cleaner is another thing that can help get the shine back to your silver jewelry or even the silverware. Spray the window cleaner on a toothbrush or rag. Then use it to scrub your sterling silver jewelry gently. With this, you would be able to restore the silver jewelry to its shiny state just like when you bought it.
Toothpaste
Take a nurdle of toothpaste on a soft toothbrush or a rag. Use that to polish your silver jewelry and remove all the tarnishing on it as you bring out its shine.
Lemon-lime soda
Recover the shine of your silver jewelry by dunking these items in a bowl of lemon-lime soda for one hour. After that, remove them, rinse and dry thoroughly. This might actually be a better way to use soda than drinking it.
Hand sanitizer
The hand sanitizers do not just fight the germs; it is also an excellent product for polishing silver. Spurt a few drops on a soft cloth and rub the silver jewelry to remove the tarnish.
Cornstarch
A paste of the water with the cornstarch would make your silver look new again. Apply it with a cloth that is damp, and leave it to dry. After that, rub off the paste from the jewelry with something mildly abrasive. You can use a rough towel or a cheesecloth.
Tip: You can replace the above mentioned paste with the cream of tartar if you are out of cornstarch.
Ketchup
If the silver jewelry that you have has got those green dots on them or have got tarnished, ketchup can help you clean it off easily. And the process is a straightforward one without many technical aspects in it.
Spurt a little amount of ketchup on a paper towel, and then rub that over the silver piece (jewelry or even the silverware) that has been tarnished gently. In case you feel that the silver does not become shiner, leave the ketchup on the item for about 15 minutes for the effect to become stronger. After that, rub it with a soft cloth and rinse it clean.
For those items that have textured details, just like the one for the fancy silverware or with some candlesticks, use the toothbrush to clean them between the crevices.
Laundry detergent
For making your silverware or the silver jewelry sparkle like the time before, place a medium-sized bowl with the aluminum foil in it. After that, fill it with hot water. In the hot water bowl, mix a tablespoon of powdered laundry detergent, and then soak your silver for one minute. After a minute, rinse the items with clean water, and air-dry.
Aluminum foil
The aluminum foil recipe is something that would not let even the most stubborn tarnish stay on the silver item. The process is quite simple. Take a liter of water, one piece of aluminum foil and one tablespoon of baking soda. Put them together and put them to boil.
When the water is about to boil, then drop the silver items in the pot for about 10 seconds. You can also leave it for longer if it is very tarnished. And that is when the magic takes place. Remove it and dry it with a soft cloth.
Another thing for how to polish silver if the tarnish still persists. Make a paste that is thick. It should have one-fourth of a cup of baking soda and two tablespoons of water. Apply this paste with a damp sponge over the tarnished area of the silver jewelry and leave it for a while. After some time, rinse it and dry it with a soft cloth.
Use any of these methods to keep your jewelry new as always with your household things, where you wouldn’t have to spend money by giving it to a jeweler. What do you think about this? Have any other ideas that can be added to this list? Share your thoughts below in the comments sections!
